Initial Recovery

This decal is located on the forward nose gear door and shows a definition table of the various symbols shown on the exterior of the airframe.

Here's the *really* important part - the cockpit itself.  It looks pretty bad, but trust me, it's in VERY good shape considering it's age and how long it's been exposed to the elements. No where on this entire airframe could I find extensive corrosion that was bad enough to require more than cursory cleanup.  Care was obviously taken when the avionics and control panels were removed.  Both consoles are full of correctly sized blanks and the instrument panel behind the two large blanks is intact.

This is the right hand console.  You'll notice that the canopy release handle is still present.  Very cool. :) Upon examining the consoles, I got a very pleasant surprise.  None of the wiring was stripped out!  Under the fitted covers is all the original wiring with cannon plugs.  It's just begging for replacement panels that will use this wiring. :)

The orange colored wiring you can see in the lower portion of the image was installed for the TLSS program.  All "research" wiring is orange to denote it from pre-existing wiring harnesses.

The other nice thing that this shows is the plastic cover that runs along the upper portion of the cockpit wall. Finding a replacement for that would probably be impossible.  Both sides of the cockpit also still have the original cloth insulation intact.  From what I could see of it, no mold has set in and it's in pretty good shape.
