Since it arrived I&#8217;ve pretty much done nothing but 3D printer oriented stuff&#8230;)<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the new Jet Fuel Starter panels.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.f15sim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/new-jfs-panels.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-296\" alt=\"new-jfs-panels\" src=\"https:\/\/www.f15sim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/new-jfs-panels-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.f15sim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/new-jfs-panels-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.f15sim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/new-jfs-panels.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The new panels are on the left, the old panel is on the right.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a few differences between them, but they&#8217;re dimensionally identical.\u00a0 The &#8220;L&#8221; on the far left panel didn&#8217;t completely engrave, so I&#8217;ll need to touch that up by hand.<\/p>\n<p>The original JFS panel has three 5V lamps that are embedded in the back of the panel.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In order to do any repairs to it, you need to use a motorized tool to grind out the &#8220;potting&#8221; material in order to reach the lamps and their wiring.\u00a0 I suspect that the potting compound is clear, but I&#8217;ve never torn apart a panel to find out.\u00a0 Maybe some time I&#8217;ll grab an old commercial airliner panel I have and tear it apart.\u00a0 For Science! \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what the new Nav edge-lit panels look like:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.f15sim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/new-nav-panels.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-297\" alt=\"new-nav-panels\" src=\"https:\/\/www.f15sim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/new-nav-panels-300x199.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.f15sim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/new-nav-panels-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.f15sim.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/new-nav-panels.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was my first go-round at doing two-color panels.\u00a0 There was some paint bleed and in a few points, masking failure.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll touch these up by hand using a magnifying glass and a very fine detail brush.\u00a0 If you didn&#8217;t know, the real panel is in the center.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll post pictures of the other panels when I&#8217;ve got them completed.\u00a0 I think there&#8217;s only one more to finish &#8211; it&#8217;s a two-color panel as well and fits on the fire suppression panel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Way back in March, I showed the starting process to how I built new edge-lit panels for the F-15.
